Hey, look– it’s Twofer Tuesday–  I guess I didn’t think these two deserved their own separate entry, so here ya go. Here are the quick pencils I worked up before getting these pieces inked and toned for the holiday rush of commissions (which was a spectacular success, by the way– KEEP ORDERING, MY BILLS LIKE BEING PAID).

People that watch me over at deviantArt won’t be surprised by the next several Skratchadays, but after that is some new stuff for you guys. Enjoy the new year of Skratchaday!

Not that I dislike Cars for any reason, it’s just far from my favorite of their films. BRAVE is looking amazing from the trailer so far!

Not that I’m not infinitely pleased that the Avengers are currently the top book month after month, but doesn’t seem weird that there’s next to no interest or hype behind X-Men? Man, if you’d have told me that ten years ago that it would be the case today, I’d have scoffed walked away. Such a weird marketplace at the moment…

I dig the Wolverine in the brown and tan– call me old-fashioned, but it best represented the ferocity of the character. In my mind, anyway. All the stripes, seams, and slices in his current look kind of look silly to me. He’s not the kind of guy that would wear much of a uniform anyway, but when he does? I think he’d pick something that gets the message across fast, not something designed to show what he DOES, really, y’know? Maybe it’s just me.

Featuring some of the full commissions from last weekend’s MegaCon in Orlando, Florida!

Drew two Gambit commissions at this show– funny thing is, originally the guy wanted a commission of Gambit, then changed his mind after I’d started! So I started over with the character he wanted, and it turned out well, too (hopefully I get a scan in my email so I can show that one around, too). Afterward, I kind liked where the Gambit piece was heading, so I started back on that piece.

Five minutes later, a gentleman walks up to the table and starts watching me draw the piece. He inquires what it was for, and I tell him the story I just related to you gentle readers. Hearing that, he fell silent and watched me draw a few more minutes, then asked if HE could buy the  Gambit as soon as I was done with it! Obviously, liking money and how you can use it to pay bills and obtain sustenance, I accepted and a few mintues later I handed it over to him. Wish I had a great scan of that one, too, actually…

Anyway, I also did this one with Rogue. Haters gonna hate, but Gambit is one of the most alluring characters to people on the verge of reading comics, I’m finding… Particularly those that left comics to start into manga and anime. Fascinating stuff!

Drawn in blue pencil on 11 x 17 inch bristol. Converted to greyscale in Photoshop.

I usually do commissions in regular pencil or ink and Copic markers (depending on what’s requested) but at shows I’m finding it easier to work with a blueline pencil to reduce smudging and keeping it clean on the show floor. They don’t erase as well as a normal pencil, but that’s teaching me to be more precise with my lines, which I like.

Ah, the X-mansion’s resident fuzzy elf.  It has far too long since he was as playful as depicted here.  (Or alive for that matter).  Oh well, he’ll be back in time.

We’re hitting C2E2 in Chicago this weekend (see the link in my Convention Schedule on the right), and I’m up to my eyes in tasks to accomplish before flying out on Thursday– no worries, the blog should still auto-update, but just in case, I’ll be back Monday or Tuesday.

Can I just add how sad I am that I only received two comments for yesterday’s posts? Yikes! I really enjoyed the Power Girl and the Snake-Eyes pieces. Oh well– win some, lose more.

I prefer my Wolverine raging. I hear talk of late of the softening of the Wolverine character, even to the point of playing leader or daddy figure to round after round of kid mutants– but my heart will always be with the furious, bezerker Wolverine of old. Although he’s not my favorite character around, I still enjoy his stories from time to time… and there’s a lot of great ones to read lately!

Here’s hoping the new movie gets is better than the previous outings. I know you have it in ya, Hugh of the Jackman’s.
