Apologies for missing a few days of the sketch blog– HeroesCon kind of caught me off-guard and I didn’t get to program the blog ahead of time, so I lost some time and hope no one left for good– there’s some fun pieces coming up this week!

Wouldja believe that I drew the pose long before considering which hand the Green Lantern ring was on? I thought so. Yeah, so that happened.
As a good friend of mine says, “Marvel has characters with cool weapons: shields, armor, hammers, bow and arrows… DC has JEWELRY. Of COURSE it appeals to the ladies more!”
Enjoy!

It’s the EXTENDED RETURN OF REQUEST WEEK! All week I’m drawing YOUR requests– and I’ve tagged on an extra week so I can get to more of your requests faster!
No banter for the next several posts, since I’m EXTENDING Request Week to this week as well! Enjoy, kids! And freakin’ comment– I’m drawn almost all the requests you guys sent me so far, so yours is coming up soon, I promise!
On with the sketch!
While researching the design of this character (so’s I could draw it, y’see), I used an Ed McGuinness piece (seen at the link here) as reference– it’s close enough in many ways that I added the “AFTER McGUINNESS” tag after– I am in no way saying this is entirely my work… looking back, it’s totally ‘inspired by’.
Man, I love the look of this guy– honestly, one of the best Marvel redesigns in recent years. That’s high praise, as I believe they’ve been doing some absolutely phenomenal work redesigning characters lately (reminiscent of the cool, classic redesigns of the 80s Marvel Comics– Black Spider-Man, Mohawk Storm, Silver Centurion Iron Man, etc)! I really dig Ares design, and wish we could see more of this guy soon. Hopefully he’ll, uh… “get better” after the events of SIEGE. hehehehe
CLICK TO EMBIGGEN– Enjoy!

Here’s a few sketches from yours truly that have been scanned and posted here for your delight and enjoyment. It’s a rainy day here in Atlanta (our new base of operations), and I sit here typing this with the dog sleeping at my side. There’s a LOT to talk about for what’s ahead in 2010– stay tuned!
