Featuring some of the full commissions from last weekend’s MegaCon in Orlando, Florida!
If there’s one thing less surprising than me getting a request for Black Cat, it’s me getting a request for the Barbara Gordon Batgirl and Nightwing… and I’m never tired of drawing it. I’m a sucker for these two, I guess. Keep those commission requests coming!
Drawn in blue pencil on 11 x 17 inch bristol. Converted to greyscale in Photoshop.
I usually do commissions in regular pencil or ink and Copic markers (depending on what’s requested) but at shows I’m finding it easier to work with a blueline pencil to reduce smudging and keeping it clean on the show floor. They don’t erase as well as a normal pencil, but that’s teaching me to be more precise with my lines, which I like.
Enjoy!

I’m doing a sketch marathon the next few days to build up enough of a back-up so I won’t have to worry about sketching and working too much while friends are in town. I’ve got tons of new art and posts to share scheduled, so stay tuned and comment away!
Also, I just saw the Skyward #1 cover colors, guys. I’m so excited I can barely contain myself. Can’t wait to share!
On with the sketches!
Okay, so bear with me here… I’m about to rant. I’ve never SEEN a more needlessly complicated and out-of-character design than this one recently. It’s as if the designer couldn’t figure out how to individualize the design beyond the template uniform he had built up with the logo, so he added lines here and there just to fill space. Not a fan.
Not to mention that without color? THIS LOOKS A LOT LIKE THE SUE RICHARDS OUTFIT DURING HER “90s Lookit Me I’m Dressed as a Prostitute” uniform. Don’t believe me?
So glad to be reminded of THAT monstrosity again. :/
I don’t get bitter or dish the haterade often, but here’s one I just don’t get. The uniform in the sketch is ridiculous and poorly designed– starts with a solid basis and turns into Photoshop Design 101. Ick.

Imagine that– Black Cat being a popular request at a convention. Go figure, right?
It’s always fun to return back to the ‘Cat and the Spider, and this was no exception. I’d really love a shot at a book with these two sometime. Start your lobbying now, folks! hehehe

The SKRATCHADAY revolution continues! In our real life outside of comics, psychology, and conventions, we have some friends arriving on Friday. Should be a lot of fun– we’ve been great friends with this couple ever since college, and the gentleman in question is a huge comics fan and gamer in his own right. In fact, at one point I was illustrating a comic of his… wow, back in 2005. Time sure flies. I’m a much better artist now, thank God. hehehe

Time to bust out the new designs for the FF! I like the uniforms, but I dunno– it’s not really Fantastic Four, is it? I suppose that’s the point– I’m cool with it. It’s got a Mass Effect flair to it, and that’s kinda cool. I figured I’d draw the new FF as we currently know them (I’m still holding out that Spidey is a temporary member in a rotating position, allowing other character to come in and have FF-centric redesigns– it makes sense for action figure sales and video game alternate skins).
