I’ve had a backlog of commissions on my list for awhile now– if you haven’t heard from me, check back in, make sure yours didn’t get lost in the shuffle. In the meantime, here’s a few to share!
I grew up on this cartoon. First, yes– I realize that’d make me a decade older than I am, but people often forget just how often there were reruns of past decades of material in the 1980′s, when I was a wee lad. So phbbbt.
Is there a better cartoon than Jonny Quest? Not only was it (and still is) a solid adventure toon, it also inspired countless other cartoons, all the way to the modern day. I’m looking at YOU specifically, Venture Bros! Venture actually used several of the characters, advancing the time frame to a time with a mentally deranged Jonny holed up in an undersea bunker, kids playing with the corpse of Race, and more.
Great stuff! I love this show, and I hope it shows in this piece. This one’s for you, Isaac! Great request. ![]()

I can’t lie: I’ve ALWAYS loved Marvel’s Hercules. In fact, as a kid I was really disheartened that the other renditions of Herc weren’t as interesting as the big M’s version– from the horrible, cheeseball, translated-poorly films to the Kevin Sorbo television series (which was alright, but not MY Hercules, y’know?) and even the styled, good-but-not-brilliant Disney movie, none of them captured the character like Marvel.
Loud, a braggart, often getting into classic Marvel scrapes for any number of misunderstandings (though mostly due to pride, booze, or wenches)… Hercules is awesome. He’s not the man I want to be when I have to grow up, but he’s a guy I’d love to sit back and knock back a drink with. A man’s man, and one that’s hard to find these days. Not MY template for heroism, but certainly one I’d hate to see go away forever.
Bring on another round and spin us a tale, Herc! What what that about the Hydra again? On the moon? With a hatchet?
Wow.

When I first saw Mister Miracle, it was the ’80s, and it was probably on the cover of a CRISIS or something. I’m pretty sure my first reaction was “geez, these DC characters have more colors on ‘em than a box of Trix” followed immediately by “so… he breaks out of stuff? I don’t get it”.
I liked him so much in the Giffen/DeMatteis/Maguire Justice League “bwa-ha-ha” comics that I started collecting his series as a 9 or 10 year old a year or two later… and promptly was bored to death by the art and story, and decided Green Lantern was far more interesting.
It wasn’t until fairly recently, when I started into the Kirby 4th World omnibuses/omnibi/big ol’ books that I really took to the character. See, Kirby just gets it– fun, powerful comics that can make even a guy in tights that breaks out of cosmic bondage gear interesting.
I gotta tell ya– anytime I read anything by Jack Kirby, I have to take a break for a few minutes to process the raw awesome my eyes were just attacked with. So much energy it saturates your retinas… Jack Kirby, ladies and gents.
I love Mister Miracle.
This one’s for Shawn, a comic shop owner out of the place I was raised– Kokomo, Indiana. Enjoy! Best of luck with the new shop!

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. I lived on this cartoon as a kid– looking back, it was BEYOND terrible, but at the time I couldn’t get enough. Especially the Horde (and the movie toys, as bad as it was)– I was hooked. I still consider Battlecat to be one of my favorite characters of all time.
So here’s a Sorceress piece! Fun character, I’d like to draw her more so I can get a better handle on her. For Greyskull!
