They didn’t win, but one of my favorite comic shops in all the land– Acme Comics in Greensboro, NC– was nominated for the 2010 Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailing Award! It’s the highest honor a comic shop can get, and Acme has been nominated twice now.
Believe me, it’s well deserved. I’ve been a special guest at the last two Free Comic Book Day events they’ve hosted, and thousands turned out. They run a classy, clean, fun, and open shop, with a selection that simply can’t be beat. They bring in comic creators for numerous appearances and signings, and reach out to the local community in various ways.
Don’t just accept my word as truth– here’s their Eisner nomination video, made by another one of their numerous, numerous fans:

By the time you’ll read this? I’ll be at Comic-Con 2010 in sunny San Diego! Wish us luck– it’s our first year, and we’re feeling amazingly unprepared. If you WILL be there, stop by our booth , BOOTH 1804 , and say hi! We’d love to see ya.
Thought this would be as great a time as any to share some of the work of Kelly Dale, my lovely wife and inking hobbyist! Here are just a few of the many recent pieces Kelly has inked over my pencils.

By the time you’ll read this, I’ll have already left for Comic-Con in sunny San Diego! Wish me luck– it’s my first year, and I’m as nervous as it gets. If you’ll be there, stop by BOOTH 1804 and 1806 and say hey– that’s where I’ll be, at the DIAL R booth.
Here’s a property I haven’t had a chance to really dig into yet! Metal Gear Solid commission by Jeremy Dale. I really really REALLY loved the first game on the Playstation, to the point of doodling numerous rip-off characters in my youth, trying to capture the magic of the property. That said, it’s a rough topic for me! All that gear and seams, and guns and technical stuff– not my preferred mode of operation, let me tell ya. Still, loved having the chance to draw the Ninja for the first time ever here.
Again, this is one of the many, many commissions I worked up for fans that wanted a piece ready for pick-up at the show.
Enjoy!
